What’s different about POP bars?

We love peanuts for their amazing nutrition, great flavour, delicious crunch and versatility and thus POP was born.

What’s so powerful about peanuts?

Firstly, peanuts are a great food to snack on, they’re nutritionally dense, loaded with the good stuff (see the list below) and taste amazing.

Secondly, peanuts can literally save lives. RUTF (ready-to-use therapeutic food) sachets made up of peanut butter, sugar, oil, milk powder, vitamins and minerals can be distributed without the assistance of a medical professional to children who are acutely malnourished. This simple sachet containing 500 calories means more children can recover from life threatening severe acute malnutrition.

POP is committed to donate 1% of our annual turnover to Project Peanut Butter, one of the pioneers in RUTF. Since their launch in 2004 they have treated more than 1 million children with locally produced RUTF, thus helping to create jobs in the local community. You can find out more here.

Are peanuts a nut?

Peanuts are classed as a legume because they grow in the ground, unlike other types of nuts (such as almonds), that are grown on trees.

Peanuts are an incredible natural source of protein, fibre, monounsaturated fats (also known as the ‘good’ fats), vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

What’s the environmental impact of peanut farming?

Like other legumes, peanuts are able to fix nitrogen into the soil as they grow, which means they require less artificial fertiliser to be grown, they naturally recycle nutrients and help to lower the earth’s pH. Peanut farming also uses up to 16 times less water than other nuts, making them more environmentally friendly.

Are POP bars gluten free?

All POP bars are gluten free. Peanuts are naturally free from gluten but we have also ensured that we don’t use any other ingredients in our bars that contain gluten.

Are POP bars vegetarian?

All POP bars are vegetarian.

Are POP bars vegan?

Our bars are made in a kitchen that handles milk and eggs, so we can’t guarantee that our bars are vegan.

Do you use GMO ingredients?

POP bars are completely non-GMO.

How much sugar do POP bars contain?

We use maple syrup to sweeten our bars. However, the dark chocolate that we use for some of our bars do contain a small amount of refined sugar. We trialled a dark chocolate variant with artificial sweeteners but it didn’t taste very nice and increasingly research is showing the adverse effects of sweeteners on the body’s microbiome so we decided to use refined sugar instead, a long standing tradition in quality chocolate manufacturing.

Our bars range from 4.8g – 9.8grams of sugar per bar.

Why do you use maple syrup as a sweetener?

Maple syrup has less overall sugar and more importantly less fructose than honey. It also contains more calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, copper and manganese than honey.

What is chicory root fibre?

Chicory root fibre is a source of inulin, a type of soluble fibre. It is isolated from the roots of chicory plants. We use it in our bars as a binding agent, to increase the fibre content and to add natural sweetness.

Where are POP bars made?

POP bars are made in the UK.

are POP bars organic?

POP bars are not certified organic. We only use high quality, air roasted peanuts that are BRC certified, which enables us to keep our products accessible.

Do you use palm oil in your bars?

Our peanuts are air roasted, which means we never use palm oil in any of our bars.

Where can I find nutritional information about your products?

You can see the specific list of ingredients and nutritional information about each of our bars here.

is your packaging recyclable?

We would love for our packaging to be recyclable whilst ensuring our bars are adequately protected. We’re actively looking into solutions that we hope to implement by 2020. If you have any suggestions, please email us: pop@powerofpeanuts.com.
